A picture speaks a thousand words... This is when Darren got his passport picture taken, the person taking the photo told him not to smile and this is what he came up with. This was his actual passport for YEARS.

There is a slim chance that Ronson will be able to pull this project out of the fire, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Pharrell is going to fuck this up beyond recognition.

We all know that Only By The Night is not only the most lack luster musical effort by Kings of Leon but it's not even "okay" is bad, polished and boring.

Ty Segall - Lemons

I was a pretty big skeptic of this lo-fi thing at first, didn't really get it but thanks to Nathan Williams and Ty Segall I got a front row seat on the bandwagon, and its a comfy seat. I get it now.. and i dig... big time.

Ty Segall's Lemons is a lo-fi garage rockish record, that perfects and sets an example for the lo-fi aesthetic I have come to appreciate. His guitar sounds like shit, his vocals sound rough but the songs sound awesome. If you're allergic to reverb, make sure you have your epi-pens nearby. but seriously this record is sick. It's raw, its short and it rocks.

Ty's bluesy guitar work and his gift for melody become evident right from the start on the first track "It # 1", he keeps this up on the remainder of the album, as no song is over three minutes Ty gets straight to the point on these tracks which I can also appreciate.

The best tracks for me are "It # 1", "Lovely One" and "Die Tonight" although I would suggest listening to this thing in its entirety, it's much better as a whole rather than a track by track basis, you know the mark of any good record.

Again, you can download it here, but if you buy music, I think this one is worth ten 12 bucks!

Apparently Weezer, for some unknown reason is putting out a new album? They have been debuting new tracks at some shows recently, I'm assuming these shows are in third world countries because if you live in developed nations there is no way you haven't evolved past fucking Weezer. You guys were barely okay at best and that was in the late 90's i believe. Not to mention the fact that you fuckin queefs put out a shitty collection of songs last summer that you aptly titled Weezer, if the shoe fits eh dummies. If you insist on continuing to put out records, give us at least two years in between to build up our immune systems again, if the last record was any indication your new one will set off a sonic epidemic of shittyness. Fuck off, go read a comic book.

Billy Corgan, the ship has fuckin sank man, it's over, it's not cool, its the opposite of cool. Apparently Billy just hired a 19 year old drummer to fill in for Jimmy, the only other original member left. Just because Reznor hired a kid to play drums for him doesn't mean you have to ride the dudes coat tails. Fuck, if you're going to follow Trent.. RETIRE. Billy's reasoning for keeping the smashing pumpkins name even though the entire band has left is that the songs he's writing sound like smashing pumpkins songs... no Billy, they sound like shit buddy.

Monsters of Folk- Monsters of Folk is a new "super group" consisting of Conor Oberst(Crybaby/Bright Eyes) Jim James(My Morning Jacket) M.Ward? and Mike Mogis?

Now I don't know much about M. Ward or Mike Mogis but I like My Morning Jacket and Jim James and I gotta say I'm disappointed by this career move bro, Conor is going to rob you of your down south rock n rollness and turn you into a sobby, sappy saddycakes. Not to mention that name "Monsters of Folk" is that the best you dick weeds could come up with, you guys have written like 40 records between the four of you and the best combination of words you could put together to name your "super group" was Monsters of Folk? give your head a shake. I checked out their myspace, and just as i suspected the songs are not too good. Par for the course though, eh Conor?

The Cool Kids- I saw you guys a couple years in Toronto, and yeah you were 3 hours late, went on stage at 1:15 AM, but you guys put on a rad show and I left pretty god damn impressed. Unfortunately you ended up being on the same trajectory as most hip-hoppers, you start out strong but the ole' well of creativity is pretty shallow and the shit runs dry quicker than you can say Air Jordan. When you released your first official EP which 8/10 songs had been floating around the internet for like a year and a half.. i knew something was up with you greaseballs and Then there was that song you did for NBA 2K9, that song sucked.. By this point I had stopped caring but then you released that Gone Fishin' Mixtape and that shit was fucking terrible. Suggestion: Spend less time coordinating the outfits and more time writing/recording so we can finally hear that debut LP you guys have been talking about for 2 fucking years.

Chromeo and Simian Mobile Disco- Both releasing new records. Awesome, more shitty music from the most over saturated, repetitive, uninspired and gay genre of music going. I hope someone puts anthrax in these pole smokers MDMA.

Jay Reatard - Watch Me Fall

Watch Me Fall is the second LP from Jay Reatard, a dude from from Memphis.

If you don't know who Jay is, I'm going to let him introduce himself because actions speak louder than words.

I have never seen anything like this, I've seen bands yell or make fun of an audience maybe throw a kick while playing but never since the Guns n Roses days have I seen a fan get demolished like that..

I was pretty much sold on Jay after this video.. fortunately his tunes are pretty decent too!

I would classify the genre as garage rock thats pretty influenced by punk, especially in the guitar and vocal delivery. A lot of people might have an issue with Jay's voice, no he's not Thom Yorke but I think it works pretty well in the context of his music. Jay keeps the songs short and too the point which I can dig.

Highlight tracks for me are the single "It Ain't Gonna Save Me", "Can't Do It Anymore" and "Faking It".

I would highly suggest buying or at least downloading this record if you're into good light hearted rock n roll, think like Times New Viking or Be Your Own Pet. If you can stand Jay Reatard's hair cut you'll probably like him, Watch Me Fail clocks in at 32 minutes so it won't take up much of your time even if you don't end up digging it too hard. Awesome Record.

Fruit Bats - The Ruminant Band

The Ruminant Band is a new album coming out in a couple weeks by Seattle's Fruit Bats, which is pretty ironic because The Ruminant Band sounds like a slightly less boring version of the album Seattle natives Fleet Foxes released last year. Needless to say, this new musical movement coming out of Seattle is a little disappointing compared to what happened in the late 80's early 90's.

Kurt and Layne... time to turn over boys!

That being said, I'm not much an folk music enthusiast, but I do think any music can be done well and I hear some Wilco in the Fruit Bats sound and definitely some Shins, subsequently the main writer for Fruit Bats is now a member of the Shins. That might be their saving grace in my eyes because I'm a pretty staunch Wilco supporter and I think the shins are alright.

Anyways on to the album.

Like I said, i would classify it as an American Folk album, with slow moving tracks that are driven by guitars or pianos. In most cases the band members play off each other quite nicely each instrument complimenting one another creating an undeniably solid sound. I think i would have gotten more out of it had I not listened to Fleet Foxes and read everyone on the internet fellating them over it.

The album is at its best during the instrumental interludes, as the listener is able to enjoy rather impressive ensemble playing, accentuated by great guitar work without hearing the singers annoying voice.

All in all, the Ruminant Band is an decent album, it's a little boring, the singer is pretty hard to listen to at some points, but it is far more enjoyable than Fleet Foxes, so if you though Fleet Foxes was the next Led Zeppelin IV, first give your fuckin' head a shake then listen to The Ruminant Band because she's far superior to the aforementioned collection of snoozers on Fleet Foxes. The Ruminant Band is a good record for a sunday afternoon when you have nothing better to do. However, next sunday I'm probably going to reach for Wilco's A Ghost is Born rather than The Ruminant Band.

Jubilee is the kind of new Aaron North band, he was in the Icarus Line and Nine Inch Nails and basically everything the dude touches turns to rock n roll gold. Their album is apparently in the final stages of production and will be self-released via a Topspin account sometime in 09. There are a handful of MP3's of their tunes floating around the internet for free and I'm going to share them, because in my humble opinion, they are the best band going.

I just finished listening to Discovery's LP...

thank god it was only 29 minutes long!

This band is made up of members of Vampire Weekend and Ra Ra Riot.. who cares!

LP is another one of those synth-pop records that is way to popular amongst the hype/indie elite.

the shit's trash and imma tell you why!

1) The whole wall of sound thing is way cooler when its a little noiser with a healthy mix real instruments mixed in with synthesizers.. think DFA not so cool when its a bunch of played out synth parts layered to the max that sounds like it belongs in a skittles commercial. I dont wanna taste the fucking rainbow.

2) The vocals are so processed and computer like at times that they might as well have had Kanye and T-Pain come down to the studio to autotune on it.

3) The eerily timed Jackson 5 cover is terrible and kind of makes me wonder if they knew something before the rest of us did, fuckin' creeps.

4) Hot Chip called guys, and they're pretty pissed about how bad you dudes were biting their shit on "It's Not My Fault (It's My Fault)" I think you broke it off you were biting so hard.

5) I think M83 and Discovery should play a greasy game of russian roulette and get this shit over with. Hopefully the both have killer aim!

Everyone knows Jerry was the brains of the operation in Alice In Chains but thats no excuse to do what they are about to do on September 29th. Touring after your singer has died is one thing, but releasing an album with a new guy is a totally different story, sometimes it can work but in the case of Alice In Chains she ain't gonna.

They released their first single off of "Black Gives Way To Blue" its called "A Looking View" and its unbelievably bad and so fucking long. I'm pretty sure the song finishes and then just starts again.. its the same parts over and over and over again. its bad, its embarrassing and I'm pretty sure it's the soundtrack to Layne rolling over in his grave.

they released a "lead single" last may.. now i'm not Jimmy Iovine but i'm pretty sure in most situations the lead single comes out a month or two before the album drops, well Autolux is sure not going to get pushed around by formalities.. we are now in July of the next year and we still don't have Transit Transit.. we don't even have a track list, an album cover or a fucking second single.
